LAKELAND | Steve Reynolds resigned as the head football coach at Lake Region last week, ending his tenure after seven seasons at the helm there. Lake Region's squad finished 2-8 this year, and Reynolds departs with an overall record of 28-42.

"After 14 years of coaching at Lake Region, seven as head coach, it is time for me to step down, recharge the batteries and reassess my priorities," Reynolds said. "My son is playing football as a fullback for Stetson University, I want to watch him play. My goal at Lake Region was to help these young boys become young men and take responsibility for their actions. Sending these young men to college has been my greatest accomplishment."

Reynolds took the team to the playoffs in 2007. It was the third time in school history that feat had been accomplished.

"Lake Region sincerely appreciates his accomplishments, hard work, and dedication to the Thunder Football and weighlifting programs over the past 7 years," Lake Region athletic director Bill Bullock said Friday in a news release.

Bullock said applications for a replacement will be accepted through Nov. 23 via email to william.bullock@polk-fl.net.
